Welcome to Barton Primary School – Reception
At Barton, we recognise each child as a unique individual and embrace the diversity within our school community. Belonging to Barton
During their time in the EYFS, children cultivate a sense of belonging within our school community. They build the confidence and skills needed to make decisions, self-evaluate, connect ideas, and become lifelong learners. Our stimulating and engaging learning environments, both indoors and outdoors, are tailored to the needs and developmental stages of our children. Natural surroundings and resources create a calm atmosphere conducive to learning, while easily accessible materials empower children to independently engage with the curriculum.
Our intentions
At Barton, we aim to collaborate with parents to foster happy, independent learners who thrive and achieve their full potential from their unique starting points. We strive to create both indoor and outdoor environments that ignite children’s curiosity, creativity, and imagination. By understanding and following children’s interests, we provide new and meaningful opportunities that build on prior learning, deepen knowledge and skills, and ensure progress through the EYFS curriculum. Our goal is to prepare children for their next educational step, ensuring they reach their Early Learning Goals by the end of EYFS, making at least expected progress. Additionally, we focus on ensuring a smooth and seamless transition from Early Years into Year One.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
At Barton, children in our Early Years phase adhere to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum. This curriculum is crafted to acknowledge each child’s prior learning, offer hands-on learning experiences, foster the development of interpersonal skills, build resilience, and nurture creativity and critical thinking.
In EYFS, we are committed to fostering the Characteristics of Effective Learning (CoEL). Through the use of real characters for children to identify with, we have designed an approach to build a love of learning in our youngest of learners, which they can take with them as they progress into Year One and beyond.
